Reprogramme the Mind: Use the Power of NLP to Transform Your Life

Imagine a world where you have the power to reshape your thoughts, behaviours and emotions to create the life you've always dreamed of. Sounds too good to be true right?

Yet think about it, your thoughts didn't just magically appear from nowhere. The habits you carry out with little to no conscious effort, the emotions you seem to have no control over, the thoughts that seem to think themselves. All of these are patterns that have been wired in the mind, making them easy to carry out on repeat. Just like anything in life, the more we do it, the easier it becomes. Over time, what was once a just something we did, then becomes an identity and who we believe we are.

Here's the interesting thing; our beliefs hold so much power, they literally shape our reality yet they aren't real.

Henry Ford famously said;

“Whether you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.”

Beliefs are something we accept as being true, act in accordance with and find evidence to prove ourselves right, which paradoxically makes them real. Most of them, we're not even consciously aware of, yet they determine the quality of our life.

Your unconscious mind is responsible for 95% of the power of the mind!

If that's the case, the question is, how do we change the thoughts, feelings, behaviours, emotions, the unconscious patterns that steer the direction of our life?

Enter the captivating realm of NLP - The art of understanding and reprogramming the mind!

For something to change, it's important to first understand how it works. Imagine your mind as a computer that uses different programmes to control your thoughts, reactions and your perception of reality. Just like a computer, we need the occasional update.

Windows 95 was useful back in the day but technology has moved on. Just like an old operating system that once served its purpose, the operating system of the mind needs a reboot and upgrade to be able to function effectively in an ever-changing world.

NLP is often called the user manual for your mind. So, let's break neuro-linguistic programming down.

Neuro: The Nervous System

At the core of NLP is the "Neuro" component, referring to the nervous system. Our nervous system is responsible for processing information from the external world through our 5 senses (sight, sound, touch, smell and taste) and internalising it. Our interpretation then shapes our subjective experience of it.

Linguistic: The Power of Words

Language is a powerful tool that shapes our reality. The "Linguistic" aspect of NLP refers to language and how it influences our internal world. Language, both the words we use internally (self-talk) and externally (communication with others), plays a significant role in shaping our thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

Programming: Rewriting the Code

The term "Programming" in NLP refers to the patterns that have been created in our neurology that influence our response, the action we take and ultimately the results we get. These programmes operate unconsciously, they run on autopilot. Many of these programmes make functioning day- to-day possible - it's how we are able to get out of bed, walk, talk, brush our teeth, tie our shoelaces, all without any conscious effort. Many of those programmes limit us! It's about recognising that our responses to the world are not fixed, they can be adapted or "reprogrammed" for a more positive and desired outcome.

NLP offers techniques to rewrite these programmes, enabling you to break free from self-limiting beliefs, unhelpful habits, thought processes and emotional triggers that prevent you from achieving your desired outcomes and create new, empowering ones quickly.

Here are a few simple steps to start using NLP principles today!

1. Know your Outcome

BE SPECIFIC! Your unconscious mind is programmed to follow your instructions. The more clarity you have, the easier it will be and the more likely you are to create it. Decide on your destination and allow your mind to guide you there.

2. Awareness

To change something, you first of all need to know it exists. Become aware of the unconscious patterns that may prevent you from achieving your goals. At the end of each day, check in on what thoughts, feelings & behaviours you had that day that aren't supporting you in achieving your goals.

3. Shift the Blocks

Release any limiting beliefs, negative emotions and internal conflicts to create alignment. Your unconscious mind perceives the world through the lens of your internal world. You can do this quickly using tools such as NLP, Time Line Therapy® and Hypnotherapy, enabling you to create a lens of reality that supports you. Otherwise, practice the following daily ⤵️

  • Take responsibility - Act as if you are in control of everything that happens in your life, then you have the power to change it

  • Focus on what's working - your mind seeks more of what you focus on. Let it show you all the ways to make things happen

  • Control the controllable - Attempting to control things that are outside of your control leads to feeling overwhelmed, frustrated and self-doubt

  • Act as if - Your mind doesn't know the difference between what is real or imagined. Time to train it. Write down 15 things that you would do right now if you already had the things you desire., then find simple ways to make those things a reality now. The only limits we have are in our thinking - focus on how you can start living your dream life now.

Every thought is planting a seed - the more you water it, the more it will grow.

4. Take Action

No amount of meditation, visualisation or thinking about your goals will create a physical manifestation. You have to take action! Let yourself be messy, everyone starts out as a beginner and learns along the way.

When you're in alignment with your goals, taking action is fun! That doesn't mean it's easy or comfortable. Any resistance is a signal there is inner work to do.

5. Become The Future You

Time is an illusion! Step into the future version of you now. Act as if you have already become the person who does the things that will create the results you desire. Embody your highest self who knows no limitations and notice how they begin to slip away.
